FAR ROC – Architectural Competition for the NYC Boardwalk
For the FAR ROC competition, we proposed a visionary redesign of the New York City boardwalk focused on resilience, sustainability, and community engagement. Our design includes the strategic elevation of dunes to protect the coastline from hurricane-related flooding, enhancing safety while preserving the natural landscape.
The boardwalk itself will be fully reconstructed using sustainable wood flooring, creating a warm, inviting pathway lined with eco-friendly food kiosks. These kiosks are powered by solar panels, ensuring clean energy use and reducing environmental impact. Designed as vibrant community hubs, the kiosks encourage social interaction and gather visitors along the waterfront.
Additional elevated structures on the beach will provide public access to restroom facilities, thoughtfully integrated to blend with the environment while improving visitor convenience.
This proposal blends innovative flood protection with sustainable materials and community-centered design to reimagine the NYC boardwalk as a safer, greener, and more welcoming public space.
